How to upgrade Windows 10 version 1903

  1. Confirm there is a minimum of 50GB of HDD storage available.
  2. Check to see if the user has BitLocker or DDPE.  Check for BitLocker by going to the Control Panel and select for BitLocker Drive Encryption and the Windows Start Menu and navigate to the Dell folder and select Diagnostic Info.
  3. If the user’s computer is encrypted with BitLocker, proceed to step 5.

  1. If the user’s computer is encrypted with DDPE, it must be upgraded to 10.4.0.1 see steps below.

  • Install Visual C++ 2019 x86 and x64.  These installers are a pre-requisite for the new version of DDPE and they can be found at \\cfs\T5600-Tracer\PCPublic\Windows10_1903Upgrade\VC++ 2019.
  • Once VC++ has been installed, install DDPE_64bit_setup.exe found at \\cfs\T5600-Tracer\PCPublic\Windows10_1903Upgrade.  Copy the Encryption Install folder to the user’s desktop and run the DDPE_64bit_setup.exe installation from there, not from the server.
  • After the DDPE installation has completed, the system will ask to restart.
  • After the restart, delete the Encryption Install folder from the user’s desktop.
  1. Install and run the Windows Update Assistant from \\cfs\T5600-Tracer\PCPublic\Windows10_1903Upgrade.  The installation file is Windows10Upgrade9252.exe.
  2. The upgrade will typically take 1 to 2 hours.
  3. While the system is upgrading, the user can continue to work on the computer.  Upon completion, they will receive a warning that the computer will reboot automatically in 30 minutes or they can opt to reboot immediately by clicking Restart Now.
