Procedure: Hosting a Server at the ADC
This document outlines the required steps for hosting a server at the Academic Data Center (ADC). The process involves actions from both the Customer and the Operations (OPS) Team.
Steps for the Customer
- Submit a Service Request (SR) Form
- Log in to My Service Center and complete the Service Request Form.
- Provide all required details, including:
- Server make and model
- Serial number
- Number of network connections
- Deployment deadlines
- For the Server Location field, select ADC.
- Review and Sign the Ethics Agreement
- Submit the ADC Web Request Form
- Complete the ADC-specific request form with the following details:
- Intended server use and purpose
- Application names
- Operating system type
- Any additional relevant information
- The Data Center Operations Team will review this form.
Steps for the IT Partner Team
Change Request
- The IT Partner will work with the customer to gather all required paperwork outlined in “Steps for the Customer” and submit the Change Request for approval. The request should include a coordinated time/date agreed upon by OPS and NMG.
- Note: The IT Partner must provide all required documents and obtain the necessary approvals before proceeding with the deployment.
Steps for the Operations (OPS) Team
- Review Customer Submission
- Verify all details provided in the SR and ADC Web Request Form.
- Check Requirements
- Confirm server specifications and dimensions.
- Validate network and power requirements.
- Validate Data Center Capacity
- Ensure sufficient space, power, and network resources are available in the ADC.
- Confirm Network & Cabinet Location
- Coordinate with Wayn M. or NMG to confirm cabinet placement and network readiness.
- Coordinate Equipment Delivery
- Follow up with the customer on the expected arrival date of the equipment.
- Assign Equipment Naming
- Generate server and device names in accordance with the UTHSCSA naming convention.
- Prepare Network Infrastructure
- Submit a task for NMG to pre-run copper and fiber connections (data and management). Include:
- Cabinet Number
- Slot Number
- Cassette/Patch Panel Number
- Obtain and assign the required IP addresses.
- Schedule Installation
- Update the OPS calendar with the date and time for equipment installation in the ADC.
Update Documentation
- Update the rack elevation diagram.
- Record the server details in the CMDB.
- Customer Configuration & Verification
- Schedule a follow-up session for the customer to configure the assigned IPs.
- Verify network connectivity and system availability in the new environment.
- Close the Request
- Document the completed steps and close out the Service Request.
